international city of mystery +/-

A long time ago, the Dogwood Festival in Atlanta was founded by a bunch of people who were interested in showcasing the beauty of blooming Dogwoods to the international community. The international community was underwhelmed. However, since Atlanta loves a festival that snarls traffic for miles, blooming Dogwoods are still celebrated to this day.

Random revelers at the Dogwood Festival, Piedmont Park, Atlanta, GA. April 3, 2004.I attended the Dogwood Festival in Piedmont Park on Saturday with recurring Propeller Skies character The Quiet One. Shortly after meeting up, we headed down to the No Apparent Reason Field to check out the bands that were playing. The first band we saw was fronted by a singer-songwriter who was obviously well into her cups. I am not a fan of the singer-songwriter genre, but her between songs banter had me rolling in the grass laughing. During the singer-songwriter’s set, Phizz to tha O-Z strolled onto the field from the direction of the Park Tavern and joined us.

After her set was over, John, from AtlantaBuzz joined us. We had a few beers and chilled, then he wandered off to rejoin some friends. Soon after, I moseyed off to photograph.

I expected the Dogwood Festival to be pretty weak. However, I was pleasantly surprised and had a good time. The bands were a brilliant idea and really made the experience worthwhile.
