marketing and networking: ama at loca luna

Thursday, April 22nd, 2004

Tonight I covered the second networking event in as many weeks. This one happened to be put on by the American Marketing Association Young Professionals.

April 22,2004.The event was held on the patio at Loca Luna, which was a pretty nice place to hang out and shoot. About halfway through the event, I ran into Cheryl, who I previously met at an Arts Safari event. We chatted for a bit and then I went on my way.

I enjoyed the crowd at this event, as everyone seems to be much friendlier at networking events. Also, networking events seem to bring out a disproportionate number of people in the public relations and event planning fields, both of which have a need for event photographers. Loads of contacts.

The AMA did an excellent job taking care of the photographer. Also, the appetizers provided at the event were top-notch and mighty tasty. I had a good time and enjoyed this event.

Fuck. I’m about to be punched in the throat by a vegetarian. And my bathroom is fucking filthy. In conclusion, fuck.

The other night I spent some quality time searching for and downloading The Grey Album, a stunningly creative mash by DJ Danger Mouse. As opposed to doing something useful like, say, sleeping. Aspiring post-ironic hipsters can find a copy at Banned Music. Additionally, the Double Black Album, by Cheap Cologne can be found there.

In other news, the Frisco will not be evaluated as part of the Smoove D Search for the Official Cocktail of Summer. Unless I get off my ass and buy some more Crown Royal in the near future. Which is not likely to happen, since it involves getting off my ass.

good riddance

Saturday night, recurring Propeller Skies character Katt threw a going away bash for my friend Jeff, who is moving to San Francisco. The party was great, with too many recurring Propeller Skies characters to list and plenty of delinquency. Future parties just are not going to be the same without Jeff.

I stopped by the The Party Kings annual Crawfish Boil on Saturday evening. Since I am lazy as hell, I did not bother with the crawfish. However, I am pleased to report the jambalaya was fantastic. Although it could have been a bit spicier.

The crowd at the Crawfish Boil was interesting. Out of close to 2,000 people, I knew about five. In contrast to the usual singles events I cover, there were plenty of couples and several large groups of friends.

The event was a good time and a great value. I recommend going next year.

summer fun

Sunday, April 18th, 2004

Tonight represents the beginning of this year’s Smoove D Search for the Official Cocktail of the Summer. In order to assist in the search for the cocktail, an ordinal rating system will be developed and an evaluation matrix generated. However, since I am lazy all this will take place at some indeterminate time in the future. Possibly even before the Smoove D Official Cocktail of Summer is chosen.

The first entry in the contest is the Pisco Sour. This is an excellent drink with a long and distinguished history that provides cocktail aficionados with plenty to argue about. Specifically, the country where pisco was invented is a matter of dispute, with both Peru and Chile claiming the innovation.

The main spirit in the Pisco Sour is, surprisingly, pisco, which is a joie de vivre similar to grappa. Taken by itself, pisco is a harsh and fiery liquor. However, mixing it with lemon juice, sugar, and bitters results in a tart libation reminiscent of a good gin cocktail. The savoryness of this cocktail makes it an ideal summer drink.

In the United States, pisco is almost never stocked in bars (an exception would be Pura Vida in Atlanta, however the ineptness of the bar staff at this establishment completely negates any reason for a visit). It is also especially difficult to find in liquor stores, which makes the Pisco Sour a fairly rare concoction.

networking, it’s not just for breakfast anymore: netparty at compound

Saturday, April 17th, 2004

Last night, I stopped by the Netparty event at Compound to photograph for AtlantaBuzz.

Random revelers attending Netparty at Compound in Midtown, Atlanta, GA. April 16, 2004.Shortly after I arrived, I ran into Larry, who puts on a few events around town. Later, I ran into Michael and Lara who are both involved in the Atlanta Jaycees. I chilled with them briefly and then got on the job photographing. After shooting for a while, I came across Stephanie, Sharon, and Robert.

The first Netparty event I attended was at Halo in February. I left the event quite early, despite the plethora of beautiful babies, since I was extremely tired. This time I made sure I was well rested, since Netparty is a great organization that always brings the hotties. I was not disappointed, as this was one of the best events I have attended in a while. The best part of Netparty is people network and therefore tend to be friendly and fun to talk to, as opposed to snobby. I met quite a few people and had a great time. I highly recommend Netparty.

The event was held at Compound, which is a cool venue with great design. I really enjoyed photographing there. However, I doubt I will be hanging out very often as Compound is a dance club in the genre of the hopelessly lame eleven50 and not a true lounge. I recommend checking it out if an event is taking place. Just remember to bring a Black American Express card, as this joint is balling out of control.

outsourcing alcoholism

There is nothing quite like going into work hung over on a Friday. I highly recommend it. The Man is planning on sending your job to India or China anyway, so you might as well too.

beautiful babies dig funny guys

I attended Improv in the Park at Piedmont Park under my own power tonight. I am not much of an improv fan, but I love any excuse to drink in the park. Even the most boring movie of all time unless one is on acid*, 2001: A Space Odyssey provided an adequate excuse to drink in the park.

Upon arriving in the park, I spotted recurring Propeller Skies characters The Quiet One and Geoff. I sat down with them and cracked open a cold Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, which loyal Propeller Skies readers will remember won the Smoove D Pale Ale Tasting Contest. As I took a swig of my beer, I looked around the amphitheater and it was full of beautiful babies. Life was good.

The improv was okay. Whole World started it off and was somewhat funny. Dad’s Garage was up next, and they schooled those motherfuckers like it ain’t no thang. Yeah, they were that fucking good. Laughing Matters went next and they were pretty good. However, see the previous comment about Dad’s Garage.

notes:

* I have never watched 2001: A Space Oddessey while under the influence of acid, so this is merely conjecture. However, I have watched 2069: A Sex Oddessey while drunk and that movie was fucking hilarious.

Would somebody please email me a Chick-Fil-A biscuit with sausage, egg, and cheese? Thank you. Working out here in the sticks sucks.
