football and newcastle

Tuesday, January 11th, 2005

Saturday evening, I met up with recurring Propeller Skies characters Dawnmarie and Charlie at Jocks and Jills in Midtown. Our friends Jim and Andrea were also in attendance. I had a bit of difficulty finding everyone, because I was inebriated upon arrival. The great thing about being transit dependant is that it allows one to stumble through life in an alcohol induced haze, with no fear of legal repercussions.

The ostensible purpose of the gathering was to watch the football playoffs. Unfortunately, it was wild card weekend and the playoffs featured a bunch of weak teams, so we were forced to drink heavily. As Dawnmarie and Charlie had been drinking longer than I was awake, they eventually decided to leave. Jim and Andrea left because they are married and boring.

Despite a distinct lack of Jills, I recommend Jocks and Jills. They nail the simple formula for a good sports bar - loads of televisions and a great selection of beers on tap.

On the way home, I got a case of the mad munchies. So I stopped into Kroger and managed to locate the Tostinos® Pizza Rolls® that had eluded me the night before on my way home from Vinyl. The clever bastards placed them opposite the pizzas in the frozen foods aisle. Instead of next to the pizzas, where a normal person would expect to find them.

Friday evening, I stopped by Vinyl to catch the Spy show. So did at least 150 other people.

Chad of Spy at Vinyl in Midtown, Atlanta, GA. January 7, 2005.Soon after arriving at Vinyl, I ran into John, the lead singer for the band formerly known as JaD. I ordered a beer and we chilled for a bit. Later, I ran into Mark from Spy and his wife, Shannon. We hung out for a bit and then Spy went on stage.

About halfway into the show, they played a kick ass Sonic Youth cover. I am not fond of covers, since most bands tend to choose boring and obvious songs. However, Spy are not most bands and they usually cover obscure and interesting songs. This show was no exception, as they also played a T Rex cover at the end.

I will not be reviewing the show, because Andy from Creative Loafing was also in attendance and will be reviewing the show in this week’s issue. I highly recommend checking out a Spy show, because they are totally bitchin’.

After checking out the crazy ass New Jersey scene, I am packing my stuff for an impending move to the Garden State. Be sure to check out the photo galleries, as their photographer has mastered the art of red-eye.

launch party

Tuesday, January 4th, 2005

Over the last few weeks, I had a blast posting photos of ruins over at underground. So, I set up a modest site of my own the other day and called it aspherical. Enjoy and feel free to leave comments telling me how great the photos are. I promise my head won’t swell.

fire in the hole

When we arrived at recurring Propeller Skies character Kara’s, the party was in full swing. After pouring myself a glass of wine, I wandered out onto the patio, where Guy and Some Dude Whose Name I Don’t Remember were busy launching serious fireworks off the roof. By serious fireworks, I mean professional grade pyrotechnics, not just bottle rockets and roman candles. Although there were plenty of bottle rockets and roman candles around. Good times.

Eventually, we had our fill of explosions and booze and headed home. A big and heartfelt Propeller Skies shout out goes out to The Dog, for staying sober and graciously carting the rest of our drunk asses around.

Upon arriving at the bamboo pagoda Friday evening, The Beaver, The Dog, The Rabbit and I chilled with several recurring Propeller Skies characters. While hanging out, I drank a few more glasses of wine. Eventually everyone headed out onto the deck, which Katt had transformed into a fantastic Asian themed dining area, for dinner.

During the meal, I sat next to Mrs. Robinson, who was wearing a revealing outfit. Being somewhat inebriated, I took it upon myself to drop various and sundry nearby objects into her ample cleavage. Soon, dinner was served and much to the relief of Mrs. Robinson, I turned my attention to eating.

After dinner, we headed back inside and continued drinking heavily to appease the spirits of the new year. At midnight, everyone followed tradition and toasted the new year with champagne. Although this was an excellent party, The Beaver, The Dog, The Rabbit and I departed and headed to another party thrown by recurring Propeller Skies character Kara.

the importance of the word panty

To get an early start on resolution number two, I went out drinking with friends Friday evening. I started the night at recurring Propeller Skies character The Beaver’s place, where I stopped in for an aperitif. After I arrived, she announced she was going to the store to pick up some ‘hos. When hookers are picked up at the beginning instead of the end, the night will certainly be debaucherous.

Soon The Dog and The Rabbit arrived and The Beaver returned sans ‘hos. Disappointed, I drank most of a bottle of Carmenere. Finally, we drank a bottle of champagne, and headed to the next party.
