Dennis Franchione needs to be fired for not sending defensive coordinator Carl Torbush to the unemployment line. While the Aggies as a whole have been underachieving this year, Torbush’s incompetence has resulted in the following stellar defensive statistics:
- Texas A&M is allowing 24.1 points per game, which is good for eighth in the Big 12;
- Pass defense is dead last in the Big 12 with opposing teams averaging 298.1 yards per game;
- Rushing defense is slightly better with only 110.6 yards per game allowed, putting the Aggies seventh in the Big 12; and
- Texas A&M is ranked twelfth in the Big 12 in total defense, allowing 408.7 yards per game and 5.6 yards per play.
Part of the problem is the inability of the players to hit worth a damn. In the few games I have seen this season, it looks like the Aggies are afraid to tackle opposing players. Therefore, until the defense improves, I propose naming them the Pink Shirts. If anyone sees the Wrecking Crew, please give them a lift back to College Station, as they are sorely needed.
In contrast to the sorry defense, the Aggie offense is not last in the Big 12. With 474.3 yards per game, they are fourth in the conference. However, the combination of Reggie McNeal, Jason Carter, and Javorskie Lane should be shredding opposing defenses like Arthur Andersen shreds incriminating documents. With these three, the Aggie offense is capable of putting up closer to 550 yards per game. Instead, Franchione is pissing away the considerable talent of McNeal, Carter, and Lane with his retarded and predictable play calling.
I am disgusted that Franchione and Torbush remain employed. With the pathetic state of the Big 12 north, only the tea-sips should stand between the Aggies and a Big 12 championship. Instead the Aggies are barely winning close games and lost twice to bad teams. This is a shit state of affairs and should not be tolerated.

It is time that Aggie Loyalist open their eyes and demand the return of the Wrecking Crew defense. My eyes were opened after the 77-0 thumping OU put on the Aggies during Torbush’s first season. Torbush has had three years in Aggieland and what do we have to show for it? We have the worst overall defense in the Big 12. Torbush’s time is up. I totally agree. Sitting here watching Iowa State tearing up our field and it seems like the only reason they end up in a 3rd down situation is beacuse they want to in order to spread out our defense and throw the long ball to the same freakin TE over and over again for touchdown after touchdown.
LTH says:
The problem isn’t all Torbush. The problem is with the head coach. Fire Coach Fran and also clean house.
true fan says:
I can’t believe all of the A&M fans do not look at the roster. Most of the players on defense are true freshmen and sophomores. Torbush is the best defensive coach in the nation but when you do not have the players to match up to the competition it is impossible to win every week! I agree Torbush should leave and go somewhere to be a head coach again. Coach Fran is not the answer A&M needs.

I agree, fire the entire coaching staff.

123-41-02… 3 SWC championships and one Big Twelve championship. Any questions?

True Fan: If Torbush was the best defensive coordinator in the nation, the Texas A&M defense would not be ranked LAST in the Big 12.

How is it that we’ve had top 10-15 recruiting classes for the past 3 years, only 11 “season-ending” injuries and yet we still keep getting the excuse of “a bunch of young guys?” Regardless of how young or old, talented people don’t make the same mistakes over and over and over unless they’re badly coached.
Jock 97 says:
Carl Torbush had 2 starting seniors at corner last season and an NFL caliber defensive tackle. Prior to this season, our defensive line was touted as the best in the Big-XII and many considered it one of the top 5 in the nation. We have a pre-season All American safety. I don’t think we can blame the dismal performances on youth or lack of athletic prowess.
Look at Baylor, do they recruit better than us? They have a very solid defensive backfield. Torbush is completely lost and his scheme isn’t working, nor do the players progress any from week to week.
Nacho97 says:
Our defense lacks aggression. I thought Justin Warren was supposed to be a bad ass, but Iowa State’s running back, Hicks, hit Justin and knocked him back on the goal line like he was a High School Bitch.
Smoove D says:
I agree with Jock97. Torbush is hopeless. Schemes from Tecmobowl would work better.
aggieforlife says:
I say fire Torbush when the season finishes and give Fran one more year. If the disaster continues, fire Fran and go after the Texas defensive coordinator and do whatever it takes to bring him in, or go after Gary Kubiac.
'79 Aggie says:
Alabama fans crack me up. If Fran were still there and having 8-3 or 9-2 seasons, they’d be lapping it up. But he left, so whaa! It’s pathetic.
Meanwhile, I’d agree with aggieforlife, except that I’d give the new defensive coordinator 2 years before firing Fran.
And pray that a new defensive coordinator does not mean having to suffer through another year of sucking while they learn a new system.

Youth as an excuse only lasts for two years. It is bullshit that we keep seeing that as an excuse. TU had a great recruiting class in ‘02, and within 3 years they won the Rose Bowl and in 4 they netted a BCS championship. That’s even more annoying when you realize that as much as Franchione sucks, he is still better than Mack Brown, the idiot who benched Applewhite for Simms. Brown just got lucky and got Vince and the D-Coordinator from Auburn.
Actually, on second thought, which idiot was it who took the extra point after going up by 1 against Clemson instead of going for 2, only to watch the Tigers scrape by on a last second field goal to steal the victory in last season’s opener? Ah, well . . .
Torbush needs to go NOW; as for “coach” Fran, I say we give him one more year.

I totally agree that Torbush needs to go. We are dead last in Total D and still havent even played Tortilla TECH. I say fire Torbush now. Fran is a good coach, and maybe Torbush is too, but he just isn’t getting it done. And this is not growing pains, this is year 3 under his system. Let’s get back to blitzing and causing turnovers rather then waiting for them to happen.
