six feet under -6 +/-

Last Wednesday, I stopped by Six Feet Under to meet recurring Propeller Skies character The Professor. Six Feet Under is conveniently located in the ghetto, across the street from Oakland Cemetary. However, Six Feet Under makes up for the less than stellar location with cheap beer*, and plenty of it, on tap.

Decor at Six Feet under is similar to a neighborhood dive - plenty of neon beer signs and retro beer cans are scattered throughout. In contrast to standard neighborhood dives, Six Feet Under is mopped every now and again. This is a great place to drink without being overly bourgeoisie.

A key feature of Six Feet Under is the roof, which has fantastic views of downtown Atlanta and the aforementioned burial ground. I highly recommend drinking at Six Feet Under. However, eating there is not recommended because the food tastes foul even after consuming several beers.

notes:

* The cheap beer in question is Pabst Blue Ribbon.

SFU “the ghetto”? What kind of suburban candy-ass are you? Drive a little farther east on Memorial for lunch at Anne’s Snack Bar if you want some real ghetto dining.

BTW: The wife and I took her parents to SFU for lunch today (our morning at the aquarium left us hankering for seafood), and I’m happy to report none of us got SFU’s infamous unintential sushi today.

Fair enough about the ghetto comment. I was exaggerating a bit for effect. Sort of like James Frey or Jayson Blair, except I’m not a published author or journalist for an august publication.

I would eat at Anne’s if I could find it.

To find Anne’s, drive east on Memorial until you see Anne’s on the right.

Memorial is one of those roads where I can rarely remember what part of the road any particular place is located. I think Anne’s is between Moreland and Maynard Terrace, but I’m only about 20% sure on that. It’s somewhere between Cabbagetown and East Lake, though.

Big tip about Anne’s - never try to eat there if the outside temperature is over 80 degrees, as the layout of the counter puts you about three feet from the grill and the place lacks any kind of air conditioning. How Anne hasn’t simply melted by now is beyond me.

Well, I didn’t see contact info on the page, so I’ll message you this way (much better than a putting a paper in a bottle). I finally got some of the MARTA Pub Crawl photos up. You can see them at http://www.atlantapubcrawls.com. Also Pub Crawl IX is coming up.

Also also (which is the cheap version of p.p.s) if you happen to have any photos from past pub crawls, I’d love to post them.
