texas a&m squeaks past texas state

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Even though the Texas A&M Aggies won last Thursday, the score was far too close. After smoking SMU last week, the Aggies should have hung 84 on Texas State. However, another lackluster performance by Franchione meant Texas A&M barely squeaked by.

dennis franchione runs up the score

I was totally thrilled to see Texas A&M beat SMU by an authoritative margin of 58 points on Saturday. I did not expect Texas A&M to lose, but the Aggies fell apart against Baylor last year.

fire dennis franchione

Another year, another season opening loss to a second rate team, another call from Propeller Skies to fire the coach. At least it was close this time. Of course, Dennis Franchione and the Texas A&M Aggies could redeem themselves by trying something new this year - beating TU, for example.

dennis franchione and the sleeping aggies

As Cap’n Ken over at The Wisdom has noted recently, college football season has started. With that in mind, I dropped in to ESPN on line and discovered that Texas A&M is ranked 17th in the ESPN coaches poll. Additionally, an interesting article on ESPN pointed out that the Aggies are a potential sleeper team and could do very well this year. However, all this does not mean a damn thing if Dennis Franchione does not get on the job and beat TU this year.

thank you, mack brown

Thursday, December 9th, 2004

We here at Propeller Skies would like to thank Mack Brown for prostituting himself on national television and begging the coaches and media for votes. Normally, we would be among the first to criticize his shameless performance. However, it had the benefit of opening a slot for the Aggies in the Cotton Bowl.

By the way, Mr. Brown, to avoid pathetic pandering for votes next year, try beating Oklahoma for once. Just saying.

how sweet it is

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, this post will not be focusing on the Aggies’ fifth straight loss to TU that occurred last Friday. Or Dennis Franchione’s inability to make adjustments to a suddenly porous offensive line late in the game.

Instead, I am thankful for a winning season, as opposed to last year’s train wreck. I am also thankful that the Aggies played well this year, with one notable exception (hint: it starts with a “b”, ends with an “r” and has “aylo” in the middle). It was exciting to watch them win six in a row, after opening the season with a loss to a surprisingly good Utah team.

Even though they failed to beat TU, or Oklahoma, I look forward to seeing what next year brings. Of course, anything less than total Big XII domination and a chance to play for the national championship will be complained about bitterly.

thank you

A big Propeller Skies thank you goes out to Dennis Franchione and the Aggies for beating Texas Tech last Saturday. Unfortunately, that is something we have not seen a whole lot of in the recent past.

fire the coach part 3

Saturday, October 30th, 2004

What the fuck? A humiliating OVERTIME loss to Baylor is ridiculous. Because the game never should have gone to overtime. Riddle me this, Batman. How the fuck does a team beat a good Oklahoma State team, in Stillwater, no less, and then go on to lose to fucking Baylor?

a close one

Tuesday, October 26th, 2004

The title of this post was almost “Fire the Coach Part 3.” However, Dennis Franchione and the Aggies managed to beat Colorado in overtime Saturday afternoon. It was a relief to see the Aggies pull out a close game, although not quite as exciting as the Big XII championship they won in overtime against Kansas State a few years ago.

In related news, Florida gave Ron Zook the boot after the Gators lost to the worst team in the SEC. It sure was nice to see Mississippi State wipe the collective smirk off the face of Gator Nation.

you heard it here first

Well, fuck me. Maybe Dennis Franchione, Reggie McNeal, and the Aggies are for real this year. That was an impressively authoritative stomping of Oklahoma State on Saturday.

In related news, after November 6th, Oklahoma will not be whining about being number three in the BCS standings. Because they will be losing to the Aggies that day, for a number of reasons. First, Kyle field is a rough place to play for opposing teams. R.C. Slocum compiled a winning percentage of 0.853 there. In comparison, Steve Spurrier achieved a winning percentage of 0.931 in The Swamp. Second, Reggie McNeal is going to torch the Oklahoma secondary just like he did two years ago. Last week, they barely held it together against a weak Kansas State team. Finally, there is the small matter of revenge.
